Alentejo
Monte do Rei Santo – Surface area : 200m2
‘Monte do Rei Santo’ means ‘Manor of the Saint King’, in land full of mystical charm, and is a secluded family retreat. The welcoming house covers a total area of 200m2 and has a garden with more 5000 m2 including a small lake. It consists of a single floor and is perfect for a relaxing holiday. The house is in the middle of nature: the closest neighbour is 500 m away.
The house, although modern, is built in the traditional Alentejano style and therefore very well insulated. Central Heating in winter and portable fans in the summer provide comfort all year.
‘Monte do Rei Santo’ has 3 bedrooms. Two bedrooms have 1 single bed and 1 double bed; the other bedroom has a double bed as well as 2 single beds. The house has 2 bathrooms. There is plenty of storage space.
The garden has 500 m2 private grounds with diverse vegetation, inlcuding various types of flowers, palm trees and pine trees. This creates a beautiful yet peaceful atmosphere, to enable you to unwind and relax; the gardens are often described as a “green oasis”, astanding out from the barer Alentejo plains. On the terrace there is a large table, a barbecue and a traditional portuguese wood oven; perfect for ‘al fresco’ meals. The private swimming pool has security coverage for children.
The charming living and dining area are perfect for large or small families. The area has glass doors which can be opened during periods of good weather for a fresh atmosphere, and enable you to have views to the garden. In the living room there is also a fireplace for when the temperatures drop and a pool table for your entertainment.
The fully equiped kitchen provides all that is required for cooking and includes a breakfast area.
‘Monte do Rei Santo’ is the ideal place for any season and offers of an endless list of activities: early morning or midnight swims in the pool, long walks, hunting, bird watching… and in the winter evenings, roasting chestnuts by the fire place! The hot summer months are enjoyed in the coolness of the house, with a refreshing swim in the pool, or with a book in the shaded areas of the garden.
The perfect place to relax and get away from it all!

Location
‘Monte Rei Santo’ is situated is Central Alentejo, not far from the Spanish border. Central Alentejo has some of the most breathtaking landscapes of Portugal. In this historic area you can discover a rural beauty and a rhythm of life differing from the rest of Europe. Portugal is famous for its wine, bull-fighting, shooting, horse-riding, and stunning scenery in the countryside. ‘Monte do Rei Santo’ is situated in the Natural Park of Serra de São Mamede which offers many signposted walking itineraries.
This is the perfect place for anyone looking for a peaceful retreat; from nature lovers to stressed executives, the Alentejo offers a serene atmosphere for a well deserved break.
Natural Park of Serra São Mamede
‘Monte do Rei Santo’ is situated in the Natural Park of Serra de São Mamede, a mountaneous area covered in greenery, with stunning views and exceptional walking tours.
In order to discover the many treasures of this protected area, the park proposes five pedestrian trails, where it is possible to appreciate the varied vegetation and observe rare birds of prey such as the vulture, kite or Bonelli eagle – the symbol of the Park.
Towns near the Villa
If you’re interested in archaeological heritage, make sure to visit the medieval towns of Castelo de Vide, Alegrete and Marvão or the city of Portalegre (30km away), the regional capital, that has many manor houses and convents which give it an aristocratic feel, and is also the headquarters of the Manufactura das Tapeçarias company, where many genuine works of tapestry art are produced.
The border with Spain is 2km away and the town of Badajoz is 1 hour away by motorway. The other side of the border Caceres and Seville are an easy day trip.
Gastronomy
Enjoy the many tasty regional specialities including lamb stew, roasted baby goat, and desserts such as Boleima cake or Sericaia pudding with plums from Elvas.
Activities
Horse riding, shooting, trekking, bird watching, wine tasting, special guided tours and other activities can be organized for our guests. Short rides in hot water balloons in Portugal began in the Alentejo: it is an ideal region for this due to the vast plains that are suitable for take off and landing. Watching the sun rise amongst the mountains of the Alentejo whilst being lifted into the air in a wicker basket is an unforgettable experience. Getting there and around
Two hours flight from most European cities and seven from New York, the beautiful holiday villa is reached by car from Lisbon Airport in 2 hours and 30 minutes.
A car is essential for this holiday as there is no public transport to the house.
The village of Arronches is 9 km away and offers small restaurantes and some markets. Further afield, the town of Portalegre is 30km away and offers more serious entertainment: restaurants, shops, supermarkets and another facilities. Lisbon, with its culture and monuments, is 2.5 hours away.
The border with Spain is 2km away and the town of Badajoz is 1 hour away by motorway, with all facilities: restaurants, shops and more entertainment. Caceres and Seville are an easy day trip.
