The Harley Davidson annual rally in Cascais 2019 – Accommodation

The Harley-Davidson 28th European Hog Rally in Cascais

The North-American motorcycle manufacturer Harley-Davidson returns once again to the streets of Cascais, hosting one of the biggest motorcycle concentrations in Europe, from 13 to 16 of June 2019. The 28th edition of the European Rally of Harley Owners Group promises to be one of the biggest motorcycle events of the year, bringing together the most iconic Harley-Davidson motorcycles.

This isn’t the first time Cascais hosts this Rally. Back in 2012, the concentration took place in this Portuguese kings and fishermen village, bringing together 12 thousand beautiful examples of Harley-Davidson motorcycles, forming a 30km cord. We greatly enjoyed hosting bikers at Sol Domus properties and I was even taken round the Estoril circuit at the back of a Harley, a unituqe memorable experience! Guests were delighted with the accommodation and space and it was a great success all round.

Surrounded by the sea and the mountains, the Portugal’s scenic landscape was one of the main reasons to choose the village of Cascais. Going from Lisbon to Cascais, it is a warm ride with the sea on your left and the sun on your back, as the Harley-Davidson H.O.G team says “Perfect roads to ride and an idyllic setting – the motorcyclists will take special advantage of the organized excursions so they can make the best of it”.

But you don’t have to stop there – on the road from Cascais to Sintra you will find yourself in somewhat of an utopian paradise where white sand beaches, rocky bays, ancient ruins, historic villages and the Sintra mountains come together.

What to Expect in the 28th Edition

In this edition, the Harley-Davidson media team expects around 50 thousand people and nearly as many motorcycles. Most of the features are yet still to be announced, but, like the other editions, the visitors can count on live music, an exhibition with all the latest Harley-Davidson models, including a demo area where you can ride them, the Custom Bike Show, the legendary Harley-Davidson parade and shopping zones.

The Custom Bike Show is a contest where anyone with a Harley-Davidson can compete.  It splits into 10 categories: Antique, VRSC™, Sidecar, Trike, Full Dresser, Stock Sportster, Stock Big Twin, Show Custom, Custom Touring, Radical Custom, Pro Class and Non-H-D Cool Custom. Besides these categories, there’s also the competition for the People’s Choice and the Best in Show.

In 2019, the Harley-Davidson Parade will take you through the mountains into the white sand beaches. It starts off in Estoril Circuit, goes through Malveira da Serra – a typical Portuguese village –  to the east of Cascais, passing through Guincho beach and Boca do Inferno (literally translating to Hell’s Mouth), and all the way to Carcavelos Beach by the seaside, and back to Cascais, adding up to a ride of 32km.

The Expo & Dark Custom and the Demo Area offer the H-D Jumpstart, where unlicensed enthusiasts can fire up the engine, change gears and feel the pull of the throttle without actually moving. There will also be guided tours yet to be scheduled, vendors selling fresh drinks and food along the facilities, Harley-Davidson‘s to rent, the Trader and the Dealer area where you’ll be mesmerized by the antiques and custom-made Harley-Davidson gear and accessories and much more yet to be announced.

What we suggest

Cascais will tremble along with the sound of the powerful engines of the Harley-Davidson motorcycles and become a paradise to the motorcyclists, not only due to this event but also because it will take place in one of the most beautiful villages in Portugal and it will take place in the first weeks of June, where sunny and warm days are expected, which makes the perfect occasion for a ride or a swim – whatever you feel like.

If you feel like going for a ride on your motorbike, we’d suggest you go visit Cabo da Roca, the most eastern point in Europe. When going from Cascais, take the national road N247, you’ll find many lighthouses, unusual rock formations and a beautiful and peaceful view all along. The first stop you have to make is at Boca do Inferno – which is a collapsed cave and a series of highly weathered cliffs, where the Atlantic ocean roars against the rocks – it is a frighteningly beautiful place you can’t miss. Further ahead, you’ll see the Forte de São Jorge de Oitavos, which was built in 1643 in order to protect the Portuguese coastline. A little bit further north, there’s the Farol do Cabo Raso, also worth a visit. Continuing on this road, the beautiful Atlantic beaches will start to show themselves under the rocky cliffs – first the Arriba beach, then the Cresmina beach along with its lighthouse, and lastly the famous Guincho beach, with dunes on both sides of the road.

Now leaving the seaside, you’ll go through Malveira da Serra, where one of our houses – Morada do Sol – is perfectly located. After leaving this village and finding yourself surrounded by the Sintra Mountains, turn to Azóia and follow the main road until you reach Cabo the Roca, the most western point in Europe.

Morada do Sol, the property located in Malveira da Serra, presents a great fit for bigger groups, accommodating up to 30 guests, and twice as many motorcycles. Its proximity to the Estoril Circuit is also a big plus for you and your group. One of the big advantages of this property is that all the motorbikes can be parked inside the walled grounds and is right in the circuit.  This was a great success with Harley bikers in 2012. We also have other properties spread across Cascais for different size groups.  One of the big advantages of chosing a home over a hotel for your Harley-Davidson accommodation in Cascais is that you will have much more freedom, your bikes will be secure and you can have a much more local experience.

On the last Harley-Davidson European Hog Rally in 2012, that took place in Cascais, Morada do Sol hosted two big groups from the H.O.G team at the same time and they were all very happy with the experience they had but not so happy to leave. We enjoyed the experience as much as them and would like you to have the same or even a better experience than they did, so feel free to check out our property’s page:

No matter what you choose to do with your time, it’ll be the ride of your life, with just you, your motorcycle and the beauty of where the restless ocean meets the peaceful mountains!
