Quinta da Bela Vista – Setubal – Surface area : 550 m2

A magnificent 18th Century manor house, set in 4 hectares of private gardens, with an exclusive swimming pool, tennis courts and children playground. There are orchards and meadows, with vestiges of a mediaeval monastery, formal walks, a section of the aqueduct which supplied Setubal, and a ruined well where a donkey once turned the wheel which drew the water to irrigate the estate. There are far reaching views from the main terrace over the peaceful valley, which the house shares with similar properties, from where a monumental staircase leads down to the pool and tennis court. When you rent Quinta da Bela Vista, the whole house and gardens are for your exclusive use.

The property is divided into two houses which are accessed from either side of the grand entrance hall, with its imposing staircase, Casa Nobre and Casa do Anjo. There is ample seating, antique furniture and paintings. There is also a bathroom in the hall area.

Almost every room overlooks the gardens, and the ground floor rooms have direct access to the terraces and gardens.

Casa Nobre is to the left of the hall. It can sleep 9 adults, 2 children and a baby, in its 4 double bedrooms and a children bedroom. It has 3 bathrooms, a kitchen, breakfast room and grand dining room and sitting room.

The glory of the Casa Nobre are the dining and sitting rooms, which are so large they can accommodate parties in excess of 20 people. The dining room faces South over the terrace with two large windows. It is entirely painted in frescoes by an Italian artist who worked in Portugal in the second half of the last century. These depict local scenes: the mountains and Castle of Palmela; the cliffs and beach at Albacol; the salt being harvested in the salinas (salt marshes); and a donkey drawing water from the well whose ruins can still be seen on the quinta. The dining table seats 14 comfortably, but this extends to 30 if the other tables in the room are also used.

There is a smaller dining room, with rural views over the terrace to the rear, which is suitable for more intimate dining or breakfast, due to its proximity to the kitchen. The kitchen is fully equipped with gas oven and four ring hob, microwave, fridge freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, kettle, toaster, coffee maker, and ample crockery, glass, cutlery and cooking equipment.

The grand sitting room with its ancient portuguese tiles and magnificent fireplace is at the west end of the house with tall, shuttered windows and French doors onto the terrace on three sides. This is an ideal room for large groups to meet and relax, also enjoying the terrace and garden when the French doors and windows are thrown open, where it can seat up to 24 people. There is a backgammon table, satellite TV and DVD.

There are two double bedrooms on the upper floor, both with twin beds, one of which can become a double bed. Facing south, they enjoy spectacular views – one to the sea. They share a bathroom, with bath and shower, and separate toilet with bidet. The private staircase descends at the back of the house to a garden floor and terrace with rural views. Here are two further double bedrooms (with twin or double beds as required), two bathrooms (one en suite, both with bath, shower, toilet and bidet), and a a private area suitable for a cot or twin beds for children.

Casa do Anjo is to the right of the hall. It can sleep 8 adults, 2 children and a baby, in its 4 double bedrooms and children bedroom. It has 3 bathrooms, a kitchen, dining room and sitting room.

The sitting and dining rooms form the eastern end of the house, have large windows and French doors opening onto the terrace on three sides, and are joined via an arch with folding doors. The dining room has a working fireplace and the table seats 8 comfortably; this dining room can double up as a bedroom for large groups, making a total of 9 bedrooms when the whole house is rented. The sitting room has a desk and ample seating, a satellite TV and music centre.

The kitchen is fully equipped with gas oven and four ring hob, microwave, fridge freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, kettle, toaster, coffee maker, juicer and ample crockery, glass, cutlery and cooking equipment.

There are two double bedrooms with twin beds on the ground floor, with South facing French doors onto the terrace and antique furniture. Opposite each across the corridor are a dedicated bathroom with bath, shower, toilet and bidet. On the upper floor, there are two twin bedrooms, one of which is entered via a sitting room which could serve as a bedroom for two children. There are two bathrooms, each with bath, shower, toilet and bidet. There is a further sitting area off the staircase landing.

The extensive grounds of the estate include a large pool (open May – Sept), a separate room with shower and toilet, garden furniture with barbecue, a tennis court and children playground. The well-maintained gardens offer a plethora of local flora as well as ancient trees, fruit trees and grassy areas.
There is ample storage space and safe parking for 10 cars or more.

Quinta da Bela Vista is a perfect choice for a relaxing holiday away-from-it-all, or as a base for day trips. The grand gardens await you for days spent lingering by the pool or playing tennis, and evenings spent lingering over a glass of wine on a villa steeped in history.

A recommander.

Brilliant time at Quinta da Bela Vista

We had a brilliant time staying at Quinta da Bela Vista. The house itself is great - so spacious and grand. The grounds and pool are fabulous too, perfect for children. It’s also very close to amenities and beautiful beaches so what more could you ask for!
